Happy new year everybody. I know it's late but better late than never hey? Sorry for my lack of consistency-I have mock exams which are later this month, so I have had to revise over Christmas :-( Hope you all had a wonderful Christmas, and I hope you have a 2014 filled with joy, happiness and blessings.
This post is going to be all about my box braids. I had such a craving for them after seeing a few of my friends and R&B singer Keri Hilson with them. How hot did Keri's hair look!? I haven't braided my hair for years and just wanted to try something a bit new.

My friend did my box braids for me, and in total it took around 9-10 hours, long I know, but worth it! We got through lots of films-The Peeples, Madea's Protection Program and Taken 2, just to name a few. We used 7 bundles of Xpressions hair (If you're African or Caribbean you will know what I'm talking about) bought at £2 from my local afro caribbean hair shop.
I have had my box braids in for just over a week now and I am really enjoying them! There are lots of different styles you can do with them. Box braids/twists/any other type of braids are great protective styles and do help grow your hair. Below I am going to include a few tips on how to maintain your box braids and I hope this can help anyone who is thinking of getting them or who has them-or if you just want to find out about them, it may be of interest to you.
******TIPS-HOW SHOULD I GO ABOUT MAINTAINING MY BOX BRAIDS?******
1. Wait until at least two weeks after chemically treating your hair before getting box braids.
Why? Your hair has already undergone a lot of tension and putting box braids adds to this tension and could pull your hair out.
2. Do moisturise your box braids. A dry scalp is not the one, and to prevent this, I moisturise my scalp and braids daily. An added benefit of doing this is that the braids look fresh and shiny-no-one likes fuzzy/frizzy braids!
3. Avoid pulling your hair back. High pony-tails every so often are fine, but if you do this too often, it could result in the braids loosening. The braid could also pull off and take your actual hair with it, so just be careful.
4. Avoid playing around with your hair when wearing box braids. In the morning you can just style it, and then just leave it for the day. Playing around with it all day can result in it looking messy.
5. Wrap it at night-I use tights because I find silk scarves slippery and they fall off when you're sleeping, but whatever works best for you, do! As long as it is wrapped up at night, it is fine.
6. Have fun with your braids. Don't be afraid to try new styles! YouTube is a great platform to find out lots of exciting styles to try out on your braids, so don't hesitate!
